Mallorca Spain (along with our wives) to get a tuna fix in the Mediterranean.

We were not disappointed.

We were fishing out of the Port of Acludia (kind of like a classier, smaller, Cabo) and the boats were a 5 minute walk from our hotel.

Day one we chased BFT, drifting live bait around 200 ft down under a float.

After a couple of hours we got our first takedown which turned into a 20 minute fight and a 100 plus lb BFT.

An hour later, we did it again with and identical fish.

Maybe an hour after that we hooked a giant.

It smoked line off of the 80 wide and took off. We were in 300 ft of water so it could only go down so far, so it ran, and ran, and ran, and ran.

We had 20 lbs of drag on the fish and it was all we could do to chase it down, averaging 4-6 knots for 3 hours.

4 of us tagged teamed it and slowly began to gain line while the fish dragged us over 10 miles in 3 hours.

After 3 hours it was time to get it in or break it off, so Chris (a giant) was tagged as the guy to put the wood to it and he almost got the leader to the rod tip for the first time when the line parted.

The 175 lb leader broke before we ever saw the fish, the captain, who has landed a 1,000 BFT said the fish was over 500 lbs, but who knows, as we were never able to turn it in 3 hours.

Day two was trolling and we went 3 for 4 on spearfish, a first for all of us.

I cannot say enough good things about Cpt Vince and his guys- they are the best I have ever fished with anywhere at any price, in the world, and dirt cheap at $1,600 a day.

The accommodations are great and the boat was a 5 minute walk from the hotel and there was plenty for our wives to do while we fished.

If you want the trip of a lifetime, reach out to Cpt Vince.

https://fishing-mallorca.net/

We are at it again tomorrow.<br first light when it was hammer down.

Craig stopped short on some birds and 30 minutes later we had 25 tuna on the deck.

None of us were ready for wide open fishing from the get go, as evidenced by Craig fishing in shorts as he did not have time to put on is bibs and it was every man for himself.

The 12 knots of wind that was supposed to show up at 2 turned into 20-25 knots at 9:30.

By 10:00 the wind was howling and we decided to head home.

A few minutes before we headed in a huge sword jumped just outside our prop wash on our starboard side, 15 feet from our spread.

The splash was like Shamu at Seaworld.

My guess is that we woke it up, but who knows?

There are tons and tons of fish out there right now and if the weather holds, we hope to have another shot at them.

Mike C

<div class="wsite-image wsite-image-border-none "
