We ran out to honey hole from yesterday and saw jumpers right away.
We slid in on a bunch and scared them away. Slowly we began picking them off. We ended up 3/4 plugged. Great ocean, great crew, and good fishing. Captain Mike

We got some intel from some buddies up north and decided to follow up.
It was lumpy on the way out and then laid down like a lake. We saw some birds and one of the crew yelled "jumpers". We slid into a few schools of jumpers with limited success. We started trolling north and then had a series of good, not great bait stops. Our crew was damn good, and did not break off a fish. The wind blew up in the PM and it was a little lumpy and a lot wet on the way in, but we were still able to run around 22-24 knots. Great crew, good fishing, decent ocean. Clark and I are at it again in the AM. Captain Mike We ran to the honey hole up north.
We got them going on bait a few times and then it died. Mark Youngblood gave us the hot tip so we ran way, way south. It died by the time we got there. We burned circles in the ocean for a few hours and then it lit up a bit. We got two more good stops going, but the wind was blowing so hard that it was tough to get a stop going. We ended up filling up one box, so halfway plugged. Weathered out for the next few days. Captain Mike I just got a text from the crew.
It started out slow, but they are plugged again. That is all I know. Clark and I are at it in the AM before we probably shut down for a couple of days for the wind. Captain Mike Clark and Randy "big daddy" Kane got it done early today.
They had Ron Brockman, the world's best insurance agent (TALL guy in photo) and his crew of killers on board. http://www.therbiagency.com/ They barely got the troll gear in when they got a triple on the troll. It was lights out from there on out. They also broke in our pimp new reels, our Accurate Valiant's. These reels are teeny tiny (9 ounces) but can put out 20 lbs of drag. They are $$$, but we might just run a few more of them in 2017. The boys are at it again in the AM. Captain Mike Clark and DirtyE (with guest captain Randy Kane) went to some numbers give to us by our good buddy Mark Coleman from Allrivers Guide Service.
Mark was spot on and fishing was great. The boat was plugged with pigs by 2 pm. Randy and Clark are at it again in the AM. Captain Mike We ran out to the honey hole today, expecting a hot bite like yesterday.
No such luck. We ground it out for a few hours and got 4 tuna. Luckily, a buddy texted me on my nifty InReach satellite text communicator that it was hot inside. I ran in and slid in on the Opportunaty. We got them going right away and stacked the deck. Then we heard what we love to hear, "MAKO" (our crew was pretty salty and actually knew a mako from a blue shark). Five minutes later we had a mako on and not long afterwards it was in the box. The bite died and we went on the troll. Pretty soon Opportunaty was in them again and we slid in and it was on again. We were not quite plugged (the mako took up a bunch of room), but pretty close. Great crew, great ocean and good fishing. We are sitting out tomorrow, as the forecast sucks. Captain Mike Today was a repeat of yesterday.
Same spot, lots of bait stops, lots of iron fish. Plugged and then some. A huge grade of fish. Beat. Big John and I are at it in the AM. Captain Mike Clark, Teton, and I went back to the honey hole from yesterday.
Teton put on a clinic, literally, pinning fish and showing everyone but me how to catch tuna. A strong troll bite let to multiple bait stops. Around 1 we had THE bait stop. Fish boiled around the boat for over an hour. We caught fish on everything but our topwater lure. The fish were slowly circling the transom waiting for iron or bait to hit the water. Our crew plugged the boat and then some. We left a wide open bite worn out, covered in blood, and smiling. Clark, John, Teton and I are at it in the AM. Captain Mike Clark is rarely wrong about fishing.
He was MFing me about fishing green water and told me to head west. We did. We beat it out through a lousy ocean (12 knots for awhile), but it was worth it. Once we got into the blue water it was steady fishing all day. We plugged the boat in 3 or so hours and started to troll east. 13 fish later I said no more, as we were well beyond plugged. The seas sat down and we ran in at 27 knots. Great crew, great fishing, and 1/2 of a decent ocean. At it again in the AM with Teton and Clark. Captain Mike |
