I just got a text from Clark.
2/3rds plugged with a nice grade of fish. A very aggressive bite that was WFO two times. PLUS they were 10 miles closer than our last trip!! At it in the AM with John and Clark. Captain Mike

Clark and I were super stoked to get back at them again today. I checked the bar report at 6 AM and it was great. We picked up the crew and headed out. As soon as we rounded the A Jetty, the swell was big. Pretty soon we were in 10' swells at buoy 10, and they were getting bigger as we went west. There were 10-12' breakers on the south jetty, the north jetty, and everywhere in between. I have no idea how Shake N Bake does in 12' breakers and did not want to find out, so we turned around. We are sitting out the big wind in the AM, but should be running Sunday before the big wind comes in on Monday and shuts us down for a few days. Captain Mike PS- Clark being Clark, went salmon fishing after working on the boat. It did not suck. Today we were excited to have Gary from the Gorge and his team of killers out.
We were also a little nervous, as some of them drove all the way from Canada just to fish. Plus, it was Captain Darrel's first trip as captain of Shake N Bake (I never cringed once and he greased it into the slip). We ran out to a spot that had been good to us and damn near right away it blew up and we had a 45 minute bait stop and 13 on the decks. After that, we stopped on meter marks and dropped bait. At one point a greedy Mako attached itself to a tuna and while I was trying to unwrap a line I handed Gary the gaff and the next thing I know, he stuck it in the Mako that had a tuna in its mouth. It was pretty steady all day and we needed 3-4 more when Darrel stopped on some meter marks, Clark threw some bait, and the ocean EXPLODED, with fish boiling everywhere. Clark even jackpoled one when nobody was looking. 19 fish later, we were out of time and had to head for the barn. It was one hell of a day. Clark and I are at it again in the AM. Captain Mike We decided to take a chance and try a new patch of water.
We ran 55 miles out and saw some birds and slid in. It went WFO with fish boiling all around the boat for 45 minutes. It turned out to be a practice stop. We chased birds and jumpers the rest of the day and got them boiling 4-5 more times. We ended up around 1/2 plugged. We are sitting out the wind tomorrow, but Clark and I are at in Thursday. Captain Mike After a big blow and not fishing for 3 days we had to start from scratch.
We ran deep SW and the water got greener the farther SW we went. Luckily, Alpha Angler had them going and called us in. We had them blow up behind the boat and had a bait stop go for almost an hour. We got them going one more time, and then it died for the day. At it again in the AM with big John in the AM. Captain Mike |
