"If you ain't first you are last." (Reese Bobby) Matt and his crew were both, as they were our first and last charters of the year. Since tuna fishing sucks, our guys made the smart choice and decided to go bottom fishing. It started out slow and picked up at the bottom of the tide. Pretty soon mal de mer reduced our crew to 4 anglers. Clark had told me about the "Ling Master" as Greg, the big guy, had absolutely crushed it on our first charter of the year. Everyone caught fish, but the Ling Master crushed it- at one point he was asking me for pointers and I told him that I wanted him teach me what he was doing. We ended up with limits of rock fish and big lings. A great ending to an otherwise shit year. RIP 2021 and RIP Captain Clark. Captain Mike

My guys ran out on a crew trip today and fished hard all day for 3 tuna.
There are probably more fish headed our way, but it is not worth going out for single digit scores. We are converting the rest of our trips to bottom fish or just canceling. What a shit year. Captain Mike Bottom fishing was excellent with limits on bottom fish and nice sized ling cod.
Still no good tuna reports. Captain Mike There are lots of fish south and a few north, but none of the boats I have talked to have had decent fishing.
I have had AMAZING reports from southern Oregon, but don't know if they are headed our way our not. Captain Mike After a week of single digit fishing for pretty much everyone, everywhere, we are shutting down until it gets better.
A buddy is doing 1,000 fish a day 180 miles south of us. Hopefully they are coming our way, but right now it is not worth leaving the dock for one or two fish. Captain Mike The spot of Westport has slowed up so Mike and Craig headed SW today as we got a pretty good report from a commercial boat.
Fishing was tough. It looks like the water has pushed out to the 126.00 (85 plus miles) and beyond. The boats are going to stretch out as far as they can tomorrow and if it does not improve we are going to shut down as work and $$ per fish ratio is not real good right now. Captain Mike We ran north where the Westport fleet had some good fishing.
We began marking lots of fish and bait. The fish were 20-30 feet down. We had a triple on the troll and hooked three on bait, dinked off a few, and the school went down. We ended up with 6. They are there, but not cooperating and we don't know why. The good news, if the fish move in, is 4 digit catches for the boats way, way deep. Captain Mike I have been in zoom hell for awhile and off the boat and focused on work.
The guys have had mixed results with some days in the teens and some days single digits. For whatever reason the fish have been moving through fast all year and we don't know why. The good news is that fishing down south (fish usually run south to north) has picked up and a commercial buddy was into them pretty good and seeing a lot of jumpers a little SW of the corners. Let's hope September turns on as so for 2021 has not been a great year. Captain Mike |
