We ran north where the Westport fleet had some good fishing.
We began marking lots of fish and bait. The fish were 20-30 feet down. We had a triple on the troll and hooked three on bait, dinked off a few, and the school went down. We ended up with 6. They are there, but not cooperating and we don't know why. The good news, if the fish move in, is 4 digit catches for the boats way, way deep. Captain Mike

At 20 to 30 ft isn't jigging an option. I've jigged much deeper for other fish. Just curios. Seems lots of fish and bait should make good fishing if you could get the bait to them. Is jigging an option?

Yes - we should have jigged and thrown more bait. The crew tried hard and stayed late for us but in my opinion we did not make full use of the live bait we had. I was surprised that we did not try and bring them up

Guess I don't understand please enlighten me. If the fish are only 30ft deep why is it not possible to either vertical jig or lower live bait to them. Just curious. Vertical jigging at that depth isn't that difficult.

Fish have been boat shy all season. When they are hungry and 30-40 or more feet jigs work wonders. Especially flat fall. One day this season we troll caught 32 fish. They would only bite on the troll. Even with marking them under the boat regularly. The next day was completely different and they were biting everything. A week later and only a few fish in box heading back in….

Going to the same place, averaging less than 1 fish per angler, for 5 days in a row and expecting different results every day.
