I had a 100% verified tuna report of a few fish being caught just north of Newport at the 125 line, so we decided to head deep SW and see if we could find them.
We dropped gear 86 miles from the bar and trolled SW until we were 70 miles SW of the CR. The water was WARM, 62.5 in the morning, and got up to 65 in the PM (thanks sun). We started marking bait balls and then the other boat fishing the area (he left Garibaldi at 3 AM) got one and we figured it was just a matter of time. We never got a bite or saw a tuna on the sonar and the other guy never saw another fish all day. 5 hours later we pulled the plug and ran in on a gorgeous ocean. It is going to go big soon, as they are killing them in Charleston, but I am guessing it might be another week or two. Time to got to the ITC kickoff party and rest up for the next run. Captain Mike
