Captain DirtyE ran an open boat tuna charter on 8/13.
The crew ran about 30 miles out and stopped on some jumpers. The fish were up and down, but the crew got into them and ended up putting around 20 fat tuna on the deck, including one on a fly rod. DirtyE is at it again today and killing tuna as I type this. Captain Mike

Our August 12th tuna charter started out a little ominous.
We headed west into the biggest, blackest cloud I have ever seen. When we got under the cloud, we were hit by HUGE raindrops and we started seeing lightning. No bueno. We soon popped out the other side and all was good. We found fish right away and had a few "practice" bait stops before everyone clicked. We got a bait stop going around noon and we were plugged with huge tuna around an hour later. Since the seas were decent, we headed east at 9 knots while clark carked a bunch of tuna. Fishing does not get any better than this and my crew is already talking about their next trip. Captain Mike NOAA blew the forecast for our August 11th tuna charter.
Instead of 5 knots of wind, we got around 15-20 knots. It was not a problem for Shake N Bake and after some hunting around, we found the fish. We plugged the boat with over 40 tuna, which is not too bad considering some of our crew had never fished live bait before. We were too busy to take many photos, so a dock shot is all I got. Captain Mike Day two was a big change from day one.
It was blowing 15-25 knots from the south and the ocean was pretty sporty. Shake N Bake handled the seas easily, but we were blown off the fish so quickly that we could not get a bait bite going. We scratched out 22 tuna and headed in early. A BIG thank you to Rob Gudgell who saved a couple of fishermen on Saturday. A boat lost power, took on water, and capsized. Rob heard the mayday and had everyone out of the water and on his charter boat in less than 5 minutes. Rob probably saved a life or two on Saturday. Well done Rob. Captain Mike Day one of the Deep Canyon Challenge tuna tournament was epic.
We ran out around 36 miles and saw some birds and stopped to check them out. We hooked up within 5 minutes and it was non stop from there on out. It went wide open and fish were boiling all around the boat. By 11 AM the boat was plugged and it was time to head to the dock. We were back at the dock by 1:15, which is a new record for us. Lets hope this keeps up, as this has been the best week of fishing of my life. Captain Mike. The wholesale carnage has continued.
It was a little slow the first couple of hours, but it went wide open at 11 and by noon we had no more room in the boxes. Fish were flashing off the transom and every bait got bit. I have never seen better fishing. NW tuna fishing is the best fishing on the planet right now. Captain Mike I was stuck in court today, but DirtyE, clark, and the Netapp crew mowed them down.
They were into the fish early and were wide open most of the day. They stacked the deck and plugged the boat by noon. It does not get any better than this. Captain Mike Shake N Bake ran with the Net2vault crew today.
There were a bunch of tuna virgins on board and the ocean was SPORTY. Captain DirtyE (Erik) and Clark got them into some wide open tuna bite. The boat was plugged and they were on there way back to the dock by 2. Shake N Bake is running Wednesday and Thursday before we take a break from chartering to fish in the Deep Canyon Challenge to defend our 2014 title. DirtyE is running her Wednesday and I will get up a report from him as soon as he hits the dock tomorrow. Captain Mike The wind finally sat down and we were able to get back to chasing tuna.
We had the Ten Barrel Brewing crew out and it was the first tuna trip for most of them. They got a lot of opportunities to learn and in a few hours they had it down cold, they even got one on a fly rod. It wend wide open around noon and an hour later we had 27 fat tuna on the deck and were beyond plugged, so it was time to head home. That is the We were back at the dock by 3. A damn good day of tuna fishing. Captain Mike |
