Fishing went from good to great on Saturday at the Deep Canyon Challenge.
Fish moved in a bunch are were at the corners, 125.00 x 46.00, 42 miles from the bar. After a couple good bait stops in the AM, it went dead for us. A buddy (thanks Ray) called us in on some bigger fish. He did not want to say too much over the air, so we did not realize how good of a school he was on until 4 rods went off at once and we landed the 4 biggest fish of the day. Fo the next hour or so we were constantly into fish and rarely could get four troll rods out before we got a strike. We ended up with 45 tuna, some of them pretty big, so we left a wide open bite to make sure we made the tournament weigh in. Team Meanwhile (Randy Kane's charter) edged us out for first place in the tournament, but we were pretty happy to place. The $3,000 prize money we won was donated back to the tournament, as I am pretty sure the food bank needs it more than us. The reports I got from buddies up and down the coast is that fishing lit up everywhere. Its about time. At it again in a few days. Captain Mike
